Changelog: what has shipped and what is planned
This changelog records what has changed on QR Code Forever and what is planned next. Because every code made here is static, updates to the site never affect codes you have already downloaded and printed: they contain their own data and do not depend on us. Entries are dated, newest first, and the planned list is a statement of intent rather than a promise.
v1.0 — launch (27 September 2026)
The first public release.
- Fourteen content types: URL, plain text, Wi-Fi, contact (vCard 3.0 with a MeCard option), email, SMS, phone, WhatsApp, location (coordinates or a maps link), calendar event, app link, payment link, social profile and crypto address. Each has its own validator and encoder, and a Show encoded text toggle that reveals the exact payload.
- Twenty-eight use-case pages that prefill the right type, relabel the main field and explain how to get the link first, from Google reviews and restaurant menus to wedding invitations and guest Wi-Fi cards.
- Eight format and style pages for SVG, PNG, PDF, transparent, logo, coloured, round and high-resolution codes.
- Styling: six presets (Classic, Rounded, Dots, Bold, Soft, Mono), dot and corner shapes, solid or gradient foreground, background colour or transparency, adjustable quiet zone, logo upload with a size cap and padding, and a contrast checker that warns on low-contrast and inverted colour choices.
- Verification: every change is rendered at 512 px and decoded with a real scanner engine in a background worker; the badge reports a byte-for-byte match or suggests fixes.
- Exports: PNG (256 to 4,096 px, transparent supported), SVG with embedded logo, vector PDF at a physical size with optional caption, JPG, copy to clipboard and a print view.
- Bulk generator: CSV upload or pasted list, column mapping, a style preset for the batch, ZIP output of PNG and/or SVG with an optional manifest and label-sheet PDF (A4 3×8, Letter 2×5), up to 1,000 rows with sample verification.
- Reader and scanner: decode a code from an uploaded, dropped or pasted image, or from the camera, with results parsed by type and links shown as text before opening.
- Offline support: the generator and reader keep working without a connection once visited.
- Three explainers on static vs dynamic codes, why codes stop working and print size, plus a size calculator.
- Optional local history (Remember my codes on this device), off by default, with a delete-all button.
Planned
In no particular order, and subject to change:
- Other barcode formats: Code 128, EAN and Data Matrix.
- More interface languages.
- Additional label-sheet templates for common sticker and label sizes.
- vCard 4.0 as an option alongside vCard 3.0.
