Guest Wi-Fi QR code and printable card
A guest Wi-Fi QR code lets visitors join your network by pointing a camera at a card on the fridge, the counter or the lobby desk. It holds the network name and password as a static code, so it never expires and nothing routes through a server. It is free with no sign-up, made in your browser, and verified by a real scanner before download.
Content: Guest network
Enter the guest network exactly as it appears on the router, including capital letters.
Style
PNG, JPG or SVG up to 2 MB. It stays on your device.
Your codes on this device
Off by default. When on, each downloaded code (type, content, style) is saved in this browser only, never uploaded. You can delete them at any time.
How to make a guest Wi-Fi QR code card
- Set up a guest network on the router first: open the router's admin page or app, find Guest network, switch it on, name it, set a WPA2 password, and leave client isolation on so guests cannot reach your own devices.
- Type the Guest network name (the SSID) exactly as the router shows it, including capital letters and spaces.
- Enter the Password, set Encryption to WPA/WPA2/WPA3, and tick Hidden network only if you turned off broadcasting.
- Wait for the badge to read Verified: scans as Wi-Fi.
- For a card, choose Download PDF, set a width of 5–8 cm and add a caption with the network name and password, or use Print for a one-off card straight from the browser.
Guest Wi-Fi QR code details
A guest Wi-Fi code is a short text string, WIFI:T:WPA;S:Flat 3 Guest;P:welcome-2026;;, that phone cameras recognise and turn into a ‘Join network’ prompt. The Wi-Fi QR code generator page explains the format; this page is about the guest network and the card.
Why a separate guest network
Most routers can run a second network alongside the main one. Guests on it get internet access but, with client isolation on, cannot see your laptop, printer or cameras. It has its own password, so changing it does not disturb your own devices. Look for Guest network in the router’s app or admin page. Give it a plain name and a password that is easy to read aloud.
The printable card
Download PDF places the code at the size you choose with a caption beneath it. Put the network name and password in the caption so a guest with a laptop can type them. Print opens a print view for a quick single card.
- Holiday rental: on the fridge and in the welcome folder.
- Café: a table tent per table, or one card at the counter beside the menu code.
- Office lobby: at reception and in meeting rooms, on the guest network only.
Rotate the password
Anyone who has seen the card can share the password. Change it now and then, after a big event or between tenancies, and print a new card; it takes a minute. Scan the new card with the QR code reader to confirm it before the old one goes in the bin.
Common mistakes
- Printing the main network instead of the guest one.
- A name with a typo or the wrong capitalisation; phones will not connect.
This code never expires
The guest network's name and password sit inside the code itself, so the card keeps working until you change the password and print a new one. This is a static QR code: the data is written into the pattern, so scanning it needs no server, no account and no subscription. There is nothing to renew and no redirect that can be switched off, which is why a code made here keeps working for as long as the printed copy exists. The trade-off is honest: a static code cannot be edited after printing and does not count scans. If you need either, encode a link to a page you control. Read how static and dynamic codes differ, and if a code you already have has stopped working, see why QR codes expire.
Styling, formats and print size
Every code can be styled in the Style panel: six dot shapes, corner shapes, solid or gradient colours, a transparent background, a quiet zone of 0–8 modules, and your own logo up to 30 percent of the width. A contrast checker warns below 3:1 and blocks downloads below 1.5:1, and after each change the preview is decoded again so the badge tells you whether the styled code still scans.
| Output | Best for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PNG | Web, documents, quick prints | 256 to 4096 px; transparent background supported |
| SVG | Designers and print shops | Vector, scales without limit; logo embedded |
| Printing at an exact size | Vector modules at a chosen width in mm or inches, optional caption | |
| JPG | Platforms that reject PNG | White background; no transparency |
| EPS | Legacy print workflows | Vector from the module matrix, no logo |
| Copy / Print | Pasting into a document; a quick paper test | PNG to the clipboard; print view with caption |
Print size: as a rule of thumb the code should be at least one tenth of the scanning distance wide, with the quiet zone included.
| Scan distance | Minimum width |
|---|---|
| 0.5 m (arm's length) | 5 cm |
| 1 m | 10 cm |
| 2 m | 20 cm |
| 5 m | 50 cm |
A wifi QR code card on a fridge, counter or desk is scanned from 20–50 cm, so 4–6 cm across is right; print it on card and laminate it matte if it will be handled.
The QR code size guide has a calculator for module size, DPI and distance.
Frequently asked questions
Does a guest Wi-Fi QR code expire?
No. The network name, encryption type and password are inside the code as plain text, so nothing online is consulted when a guest scans it. The card keeps working until you change the guest password or rename the network.
Do I need a guest network, or can I share my main Wi-Fi?
You can share the main network, but a guest network is safer and easier to manage. Guests get internet without access to your computers and smart devices, the password can be changed without touching your own gadgets, and it can be switched off between bookings.
How do I turn on a guest network on my router?
Open the router's app or admin page, usually at 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1, and find Guest network under Wireless. Switch it on, set a name and a WPA2 password, keep client isolation or 'block local network access' on, and save. Then type those details here.
How do I make a printable wifi QR code card?
Choose Download PDF, set the width to 5–8 cm and type a caption with the network name and password. Print on card and laminate it matte if it will be handled. For a quick single card, Print opens a print view.
Is it safe to leave the Wi-Fi password on a card?
It is as safe as telling guests the password. Keep the card on the guest network only, so a scan never reaches your own devices, and change the password from time to time. The code is generated in your browser here and never uploaded.
Will it work on every guest's phone?
iPhones from iOS 11 and Android phones from version 10 join from the camera app. Older Android phones need a scanner app or the Wi-Fi settings scanner. Laptops do not join from a code, so the card should also show the details as text.
